On July 29th, on a very warm Wednesday morning we decided to take our family to the coast! Seaside, OR is two hours east of us so it was quite a drive to begin with. Not only that, but the morning had a couple kinks here and there! We finally got everything ready to go, then the breaks needed to be changed because Lord knows old breaking pads and two hour drives do not go well together! Haha, my husband’s speedy self managed to change the break pads in almost thirty minutes.
I don’t think the kids realized how far the place is, the most repetitive question we’ve heard is “Are we almost there?” I think we arrived at about 1 or 1:30 and first thing we did was ride our bikes to the beach! The weather was so profoundly beautiful and refreshing compared to the 91 degrees of where we live. Just the perfect warmth from the sun, with a subtle but enough breeze from the accompanying wind.
The warm, yet very clean sand was interesting enough to the kids that they ran around, buried their feet, built dry sand castles that wouldn’t form, drew pictures and wrote alphabets for a couple hours that felt like minutes to our afternoon! Afterwards, we had the honor to meet the realsilverman that had the talent to stay still and surprised me when he moved. Good thing I wasn’t right next to him trying to take a picture otherwise I would’ve embarrassed myself (and my family) quite terribly. Ezekiel was pretty amazed? Shocked? Feeling weird at what that thing was? that he wouldn’t stop staring at him while we were trying to take a picture. I think the pictures ln my video clip would suffice by the way to explain his curiosity.
Dinner and grumbling tummies were very evident around this time and we drove around to find the perfect place to treat our bellies. The reviews on yelp had great reviews on the Blue Whale BBQ restaurant. We ordered the mixture sampler for two people plus hot dog for Ezekiel and grilled cheese for KEILANI and when I say sampler I do not mean the regular sampler that consists of two things each…. It was more like 7 fried battered fish, three cups of pulled pork, and a baby back ribs, not half ribs, but a full one. On top of this are barbecue beans, grilled vegetables, and a load of fries. Cute little MiMi loved the fries and the pulled pork, and ate quite happily while playing with the orca that kept her very still in her seat.
After satisfying our hunger and feeling very refreshed and somewhat sleepy after the big dinner, we went back to the beach to enjoy God’s beautiful creation once more. Our dog Ryu had a blast with the open space and chased birds with his little bad self. Not to mention he’s actually smaller than those seagulls, so the picture created was pretty funny. We met a father and his son, along with probably retired couple who was flying kites who found our dog very interesting! The father and son watched him in their hotel room and i believe they thought they had to meet our little guy. For those of you who grew up in the 90s should know who Ryu is, all you gamers out there I give props to you for your knowledge of this character.
Of course we could not have left Seaside without purchasing the infamous hoodies of Seaside, Oregon so to Mary Ann’s 12 dollar store we go. Which sadly was more like Mary Ann’s 14.99 dollar store for those hoodies! I ran in there before the store closes in about five minutes time and picked out sweaters for everybody that consisted of red for the hubby, gray and pink for me, a beautiful glittery lettering for the eldest girl, a car printed one for ez, and a cute tye dye mermaid for the little toddler. It was to go home then, and off we went so sleepily…
