Three In One

Have you ever wondered why God is three in one? How he can be everywhere and know everything? How is He the Father, the Son, AND the Spirit? In other words, the trinity. How is it that He can be fully God and fully human when Yeshua walked the earth? Why did He pray to the Father when He is God Himself? It’s such a weird notion to our understanding. It’s a hard thing to grasp or to fully comprehend. I started thinking about this for a while and why we are the way we are. Why do we have two hands and feet or why do we have emotions or thoughts?

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27

The answer is sort of simple because it’s written in the first book of the bible in literally chapter one. John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Jesus already existed even before day one of creation. Jesus was Jesus and He is still Jesus. That Jesus who was risen from the dead in His glorified body. His disciples saw that glorified body.

But Jesus said, “Why are you so frightened? Why do you doubt? Look at my hands and my feet and see who I am! Touch me and find out for yourselves. Ghosts don’t have flesh and bones as you see I have.” Luke 24:38-39

This is Jesus in His fully God body. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. So God created mankind in his own image. He looks like us and we look like Him. Isn’t that just an amazing thought to be created after Him in this way? He looked at us and saw that it was good. So now, let’s look at ourselves.

We all have a body, soul, and spirit (if you believe in God) Let’s just say you do, because you’re here reading this right now, you have some thought somewhere that you do believe in Jesus or at least want to. That alone shows your Spirit.

We know we all have a body, but the body without the soul is just a body. Robotic really, and what do you do with just a body without a mind? Here comes our souls. Souls are just a special word for having a mind, emotions, and will. A mind, an ability to think and have thoughts. Emotions, the ability to feel, and finally a will, the ability to act out what is in your heart and mind. The last one is our spirit, which is our connection to God. This is our direct connection with the living God.

Three of these attributes of ours are separate things but it makes us one.

Let’s say I can have a failing body that is full of sickness and pain, but my soul are perfectly healthy. I’m full of joy and I choose to be happy and have a positive outlook in life, and my spirit is with God. I can be perfectly healthy physically, but my soul isn’t. It is emotionally troubled, filled with evil thoughts, and the outcome of these is my questionable actions. At the same time, I’m aware of my connection with God. Lastly, I can have perfectly healthy body and soul, but have no spirit. I don’t believe in God. These are all three separate attributes but all of it makes me… well, me. Three in one. I don’t know if this reference is entirely making sense or correct, BUT for just the sake of making the three in one make sense to our understanding… The Father is the soul, the Son is the body, and the Spirit is well, lol, the SPIRIT! WOOOOO. He obviously connects with us and since He created us, He gave us the spirit to be able to connect with Him.

Look around your surroundings in the day to day life. Maybe it’s your friend, coworker, or family. You can tell the different attributes in each of this category, but all of it makes them… well, uh, them. One being. This is exactly why God made us in His image, because that’s what He is in a much, much more grandiose version. We are created beings, so of course, we are limited. We are not omnipresent. We are only where we are at that certain time. We only know things that are around us. We can only do things with limitations.

God, though.

He is the omnipresent God who is everywhere at all times. He is omniscient who knows everything all at once, and He is omnipotent who has unlimited power and able to do anything.

Sometimes in one point in my life even that statement above is WEIRD. Ugh, like how do I understand this at all in my puny little mind?! I was thinking about my eldest daughter, Keilani. This girl is gifted yallsssss. She can create the most artistic thing with her talented little teenagery fingers. I’m also not being biased because I’m her mom. My jaw drops every time I see her finished work. Her drawings are what in the heck gosh darn good.

I was explaining to my kids how to understand God’s limitless power. I held out her drawing in front of her eyes and showed her that she could see everything. She knows how it was created, how long it took to create, the shades and fades of all that’s on that iPad screen or paper. She sees that it’s good and signs her name and saves it. Done. Now imagine if each of that pixel or dot is alive, is aware of itself, and its surroundings. Although, it cannot see the whole picture and doesn’t know what’s on the other side… but Keilani can. She is, technically, everywhere at all times in that sense of her creation.

Now, what if she gave each pixel the ability to will itself into motion, but with each motion there is alternative results. She can monitor if Pixel A chooses this route, this is what will happen. Pixel B chooses this other out, and this is what will happen, so on and so on. While they can choose, she already knows what the outcome of that choice is. In that sense, she is omniscient with her creation. She can also decide to be a really disappointed creator of her art to see it always chooses bad and just deletes her work. Bye pixels.

Or, let’s say she is a loving creator of her art and knows what the end will be even though it will take a really long time to get there. Eventually pixels will be with her for eternity. In that weird comparison, haha, she is in that sense, omnipotent. She is able to do anything with her creation. You are welcome to imagine this with YOUR special creation and see that you are the creator of whatever that is.

So, we are made in the image of God and the mystery of the trinity is finally not really all that complicated anymore.

All this makes me understand why Jesus has always been there, from the beginning of time until now and forever. We are bound by time. Time in itself is a created thing. God is outside of time and this is something we won’t understand until we live in eternity with Him. But, isn’t it such a beautiful thought that God loved YOU so much that He didn’t want to delete us because of our sins? Instead, since He is omnipotent and can do anything, He chose to empty Himself and leave his divine attributes in heaven. He made himself limited like you and I, just so He can die and be the final sacrifice to our sins? His blood dripped to the ground while He was on that cross as payment? the final lamb to be sacrificed for you and I.

That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Romans 10:9-10

All we have to do is just believe in Him, that He died for your sins and rose again. Such a short gospel to be said, and really is not a complex request from Jesus.
